Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.

Victory also means he has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 various events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on court had led commentators to question if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the final five points to go ahead.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour championship, took control to force a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial break points in a close final set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
